This week the children have investigated how volcanoes explode. We have researched on the net and conducted some experiments too. We tried vinegar and soda volcanoes and the Coke and Mentos experiment. The sand was frozen when we made the volcano!! Logan and Michael were committed though! Great job boys! We returned to class and had some fantastic Explanations written by the children.
Macy - Coke and Mentos
Today HB13, HB14 and HB15 did an experiment with coke and mints. It went BOOM because of the porous mints. The coke bubbles react with the mints. The mints have little holes and the little bubbles stick on the mints.
Zach - How Volcanoes Explode
Inside the volcano is magma. The magma can be 1000 degrees. When the magma gets really hot the magma starts coming up and when it reaches the top it either goes out of the vent or the top of the volcano. Today we went out and experimented how volcanoes explode. It explodes like when you shake up a coke bottle.
Keira - How Volcanoes Explode
First the magma gets really, really, really hot. Then the magma goes up the pipes and explodes! But when it comes out it is called lava. It's like if you shake up a coke bottle. When you open the lid it explodes!
